GOP Senators Mourn John Lewis Except It Wasn’t John Lewis
They appeared heartbroken, these towering icons of love and compassion. Rubio himself, appeared on the edge of tears, because after all he had known John Lewis for years, and had worked alongside him on any number of important issues, as did Senator Dan Sullivan.
These guys were so upset by the death of civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis that they posted photos of themselves with … the late Rep. Elijah Cummings, who is also a long-serving Democratic Black congressman, but quite a different person who died back in October.
“It was an honor to know & be blessed with the opportunity to serve in Congress with John Lewis a genuine & historic American hero,” Rubio, never missing an opportunity, tweeted with a photo of himself and Cummings, not Lewis, that he briefly made his profile picture before the ridicule began.
Meanwhile, Sullivan posted on Facebook that “It was an honor to have served alongside John for a small portion of his impressive career of service and to have joined him at the opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, a years-long effort of the congressman”—beneath a photo of himself and Cummings.
The Washington Post notes that the mistake was made so often that Lewis mentioned it when he paid tribute to Cummings on the House floor after his death. “Sometimes people would confuse us and say, ‘Hello, Elijah’ to me or ‘Hello, John Lewis’ to him,” Lewis said. “And we would joke about it, we would laugh about it.”
Fox News and CBS News have also made the blunder, notes the Post. Rubio corrected his error, tweeting that “Earlier today I tweeted an incorrect photo,” while Sullivan simply took down his post.
How does this even happen? Is no one in Trump’s government paying attention? Clearly not.

Ok 2020 that is enough out of you with the dying of people. We get it already now stop it.
It is one thing to make a mistake in a general conversation, but one would think that making a statement for public release a government official would want to be correct. But then, we must remember that these are the days of the Donald Trump presidency where getting things right is rare,
Yep. These are the days of The Donald, and dark days they are indeed.
Does anyone remember when Chris Christie attacked Rubio, calling his statements “talking points” that he would use time and again, which is exactly what he did. These politicians are masters at the art of bullshit.
Politicians like Rubio care about very little except getting reelected. He’s embarrassed but not for long. People like him have to go.
You won’t find me standing up for these men, but I reluctantly admit I got them confused from time to time.
