The Scientific Method of Studying Virus Vaccine

Read Time:3 Minute, 9 Second

Currently, the world’s best virologists are a little busy trying to find a cure or a vaccine for the COVID-19 Virus, also known as the beer virus. In doing this they are conducting research on the virus using something called the Scientific Method of Research (SMR). Since most people are not familiar with this process I thought I would give everyone who is interested in a brief summary of what is required of one using the Scientific Method.

First of all the SMR is used to answer a question that is derived from developing a hypothesis. A hypothesis is basically a best guess based upon reviewing relevant research articles on similar topics and making an assumption of what will answer your question. For example, you may want to know if ducks can float on water. Or if ducks can float with a twenty-five-pound weight tied to their feet.

I know that sounds strange but it sounds like something that Donald Trump might want to know. Or, knowing Donald Trump, he might want to know if potential immigrants can cross the Rio Grande with one hundred pounds of cocaine strapped to his back. You would form that into a test hypothesis or a yes/no question such as “Can an immigrant cross the Rio Grande River with one hundred pounds of cocaine strapped to his back?”

That would be a good question but it does need refining a bit by using variables. For example, how big is the immigrant, and is the cocaine in a container and how much does it weigh. Those are variables. So, we rephrase it; “Can a one hundred and forty-pound immigrant carry a one hundred pounds of cocaine in a ten-pound container across the Rio Grande River on his back?” Now, this has nothing to do with the beer virus or the duck with the twenty-five-pound weight, but the principle is the same. Just answer the question.

Well, we don’t know, do we? So we will have to run a test just to see. We construct a test to determine if the answer is yes or no. Then we need to have pounds of co a number of immigrants to attempt to carry the one hundred pounds of cocaine on their backs to further validate the study.

While hypothetically we could round up all of the one hundred and forty-pound immigrants sitting around waiting to cross the border that would not be very practical so instead we gather up a sample of 1000 immigrants as a sample. To be a good test we must try to have a large enough sample so that the results are not just by chance.

Let’s say we get a sample of a thousand subjects and the proposed vaccine worked on 100 people, and 10 ducks could float with a twenty-five-pound weight tied to their feet and forty immigrants made it across the Rio Grande river. Well, I would say that the vaccine was a failure because it did not work 90% of the time, but we would have plenty of ducks for dinner.

Donald Trump would say we were being invaded by immigrant drug dealers. It all depends on how you choose to report your results. Trump might also say that the vaccine was a success because it worked on one hundred people. In fact, if it worked on one person he might call it a success. He suggested that we drink chlorine bleach and I doubt that it worked on even one person. But then. I have serious doubts if Donald Trump understands how the Scientific Method works either.

“(ERROR) Well, I would say that the vaccine was a failure because it only worked 90% of the time, but we would have plenty of ducks for dinner.”
THIS SHOULD READ THAT IT DID NOT WORK 90% OF THE TIME
Leave it up to me to screw it up.
