Late last week, just a few days before Electoral College votes were cast in state capitols on Monday, a large group of President Donald Trump’s right-wing supporters signed a letter falsely declaring Trump to be “the lawful winner of the presidential election” and urging state legislators to ignore certified election results and appoint pro-Trump electors. The letter was organized by the Conservative Action Project, an advocacy arm of the secretive Council for National Policy network.

Here is the text of the letter:

The evidence overwhelmingly shows officials in key battleground states—as the result of a coordinated pressure campaign by Democrats and allied groups—violated the Constitution, state and federal law in changing mail-in voting rules that resulted in unlawful and invalid certifications of Biden victories.

There is no doubt President Donald J. Trump is the lawful winner of the presidential election. Joe Biden is not president-elect.

Accordingly, state legislatures in the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Michigan should exercise their plenary power under the Constitution and appoint clean slates of electors to the Electoral College to support President Trump. Similarly, both the House and Senate should accept only these clean Electoral College slates and object to and reject any competing slates in favor of Vice President Biden from these states.

Conservative leaders and groups should begin mobilizing immediately to contact their state legislators, as well as their representatives in the House and Senate, to demand that clean slates of electors be appointed in the manner laid out in the U.S. Constitution.

Several signers were also speakers at the weekend’s pro-Trump rallies in Washington, D.C., including Ed Martin of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles, and Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life.

The letter, whose signature page was updated Monday, attracted the support of leaders from across the religious and political right-wing movement as well as some corporate CEOs.

Signers include Council for National Policy leaders William Walton and former Rep. Bob McEwen, Rebecca Hagelin of the religious-right voter mobilization group United in Purpose, the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins and Jerry Boykin, the Leadership Institute’s Morton Blackwell, the Media Research Center’s Brent Bozell III, Tea Party activists Jenny Beth Martin and Judson Phillips, American Values’ Gary Bauer, Citizens United’s David Bossie, Western Journal publisher Floyd Brown, Elaine Donnelly of the anti-LGBTQ-servicemember Center for Military Readiness, and quite a few others.

The entire list is available here.

I am hoping that our next Attorney General will bring charges against all the seditionists and secessionists of recent record. We have got to put an end to this nonsense.

I know they say such action would be divisive. Maybe it would, maybe it wouldn’t. But we know for sure that this kind of thing sure is. Gotta stop the dividing before we can ever hope hope to unite; stop the bleeding if we are ever expect to heal.

This action shows clearly that the Republicans should no longer be considered legitimate members of the citizenry of these United States. WHY? Well, let’s start with sedition or an attempt to undermine the legitimate power of the democracy of The United States and its Constitution. That is a good start.
To the best of my knowledge, each of these people has taken an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. Breaking that oath for political reasons amounts to committing the crime of sedition, or trying to overthrow the legitimate governing power of this country.
