Ron Johnson Disses Capitol Siege—Says Rioters Were “just a bunch of idiots”
It doesn’t matter to him that a police officer was killed in last month’s riot at the Capitol and numerous other officers were clubbed and beaten with metal flagpoles and baseball bats.
We watched in horror as some of these brave men and women even had bear mace sprayed directly in their faces. Not only that, but officials have said that guns, bombs, and Molotov cocktails were seized from the rioters that day.
But, and speaking of idiots, Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin seems to think everyone is overreacting a bit. Really?
Speaking on WISN on Monday, Johnson said:
“This didn’t seem like an armed insurrection to me… When you hear the word ‘armed,’ don’t you think of firearms? Here are the questions I would have liked to ask: How many firearms were confiscated? How many shots were fired?”
The crazy doesn’t stop there: He also claimed that Democrats had “selectively” edited videos to make it seem like Vice President Mike Pence and other elected officials were in more danger than they were when they fled the rioters. Seriously?
Johnson, the real idiot, concluded: “If that was a planned armed insurrection, man, you had really a bunch of idiots.” The senator, one of Trump’s most loyal allies, also boasted that he was “literally never afraid” during the pro-Trump insurrection.

Recently, the beloved Sesame Street character Big Bird went on television and social media to promote COVID-19 vaccines. Man’s a pig and my apologies to pigs.
Almost immediately after the Capitol attack, all corners of the political spectrum repudiated the mob of President Trump’s supporters. Those that did so included Trump sycophant Lindsey Graham. Yet within days, prominent Republicans, party officials, conservative media voices, and rank-and-file voters began making a rhetorical shift to try to downplay the group’s violent actions, and that shift wasn’t only rhetorical. Many were and are buying into outlandish conspiracy theories such as those espoused by QAnon.
It was only a matter of time before republican politicians began downplaying the events of January 6th.
After all, the rhetoric of their leadership inspired the mob, and continues to do so.
Why, of course. Who can take over the government with some cable ties or a flag. Just a bunch of idiots. Unruly football louts after a game. That gallows? Something left over from Halloween.
Never mind the guns. Never mind the eye gouged out, the skull crushed. What’s 5 people anyway?
It’s another infantile attempt at minimalization. Ask any kindergarten teacher; she can entertain you for hours with the forensic skills of five year old children and geriatric Republicans.
Ah, it’s just like the flue. Oh, Washington DC is more dangerous than Baghdad. Much ado about nothing. Many such techniques can be defined as special conditions of others. These things are also kinds of magic thinking, common in toddlers but most of us haven’t progressed much further. Think Q-Anon with their cannibalistic underground baby eaters from space.
And of course he wasn’t afraid – not an illegal immigrant in sight!
