American Ignorance is Dooming Us All

Read Time:3 Minute, 46 Second

by Bill Formby

As time goes on I am beginning to wonder if America will forever be stuck in a pandemic, which is somewhat strange considering that, in the past, we have had success in meeting challenges. We went through so many serious illnesses such as tuberculosis, smallpox, polio, the Spanish flu, the swine flu, and measles, and as a nation, have generally fared pretty well, Though not completely, we have turned the killer, HIV, into just another STD.

What is so different this time with Covid-19 and its mutated forms. Well, this is my take on our current situation. The internet and its social media platforms were not available during those various breaks along with a tremendous increase in population worldwide and particularly in America.

In the past, the vast majority of people really had to or chose to listen to the experts provided by the government. When the government took on the tobacco industry. most people accepted the fact that smoking and other uses of tobacco products will bring about early deaths.

That is pretty much considered a fact. No, it did not stop some people from killing themselves, but we did not stop some people from smoking. But, it did encourage a lot of people to stop smoking. Since that time the percentage of people who smoke quit.

This was a logical decision that gave reasonably intelligent people a solid reason to quit using a tobacco product. At least, most people did. Why did those efforts to curtail smoking seem to work so much better than the current pandemic information? I think most of it can be chalked up to ignorance.

There seems to be a strange phenomenon that persists among people in this country in which people find it in vogue to hate and distrust their government. I mean, it is strange in the sense that we all have a vote in who occupies the positions of government. However, people should realize that the parties seem to alternate winning elections and there is no such thing as a perfect candidate and no one can have their way all of the time.

There is no utopia.

While the less informed among our population can’t seem to understand that some good comes out of both sides occasionally, it is clear that being part of a democratic process actually functions works better than an aristocracy. For example, while Richard Nixon turned out to be a “crook”, he also accomplished a lot of good things. He did respect the Constitution in the end. Just as Lyndon Johnson was able to bring about many changes in the civil rights laws, some of them good and some of them not so good. Now, during the present times, Obama had some good things, it is questionable as to whether they were all good. The exception when it came to Trump who did very little good and was arguably the worst president of all time.

Trump was a prime example of why we chose a democracy instead of an aristocracy. But a number of people seemed to like having a tyrant as president and essentially someone and especially one with the intelligence of a gopher and I should be ashamed for comparing Trump to a gopher because gophers at least know their jobs and do it well.

The number of people in this country that are criticizing the vaccine and mask use to fight off the Covid viruses is actually astounding. I heard one anti-vaxxer comment that it was stupid to think that people were wrong to inject the vaccine because they were experimental drugs. He blamed Bill Gates for pushing an experimental drug on people. Well, dude, guess what, at some point all drugs were experimental. While these drugs have been pushed through their approval process they have been approved after going through the process of scientific investigation. It was a bit faster than normal but it is not like they simply threw things together haphazardly. Most all of the vaccines were based on other proven drugs such as the SARS drugs. How anyone could think that drugs that were developed and approved from several different countries could be part of some worldwide conspiracy is beyond me.

Over 4 million people worldwide have died from Covid – 19 and its mutant strain. I am not sure where these people get their information but it is clear that their brains have been put in backward. Hopefully, there will be fewer Republican idiots after this ends.

[…] Bill Formby seems to suggest that America’s most destructive enemy can be found in American willful ignorance. […]

America: the land where those who refuse a FREE vaccine to protect themselves willing PAY for counterfeit vaccination cards to endanger others.

You should really look at the silver lining in all this mess. Ayup there truly is one. Goopers are dying left right and center because they are just that stupid.

Yabut they are not taking too many people with them unless it’s members of their circle so I’m good with that 😉

I’ve tired of it, from the Trump to the Pandemic, to foreign wars. I don’t want to hear about how blacks are discriminated against for everything that happens to them, or how cops make everything bad happen to them. I don’t want to hear about how Republicans are going to impeach Biden when (if) they win in 2022. I don’t want to hear about any of it. Dogs. I like to hear about dogs. I like to hear about saving the whales and the elephants. I like to hear that there are a few good people in the world; very few, but a few nonetheless.

Oh, me too, I struggle to find anything similar in history although the world is still run as much by the passions of the stupid and superstitious as ever. It’s a smaller world though and one where idiocy and malice have a bigger voice. The sad thing is that most dogs can’t survive without humans and I don’t think humans can survive at all.

I just heard that the Taliban has a Twitter account. One of my grandsons informs me there are posters at his high school informing all that the word “sheesh” is racist and must not be used. Apparently it’s no longer a euphemism for Jesus – like Jeez, but something to do with Tic Toc if you say it in a certain squeaky tone and point to a place on your arm while maybe dunking a hot dog into ketchup.

Jeez. I think all the good people of the world could fit into the local dog park. !2:00 noon. Bring your dog.

To Glenn and Mike, I was asked why I have not been writing as much as I used to do. Well, you have stated the reasons, The idiots that ever let Trump into the political arena unleashed the worse person in the world should be taken out and shot. The mess we are dealing with currently can be laid at their feet. Trump, like everyone else, had/has the right to run for elected office, but he gave the nuts permission to fall off the trees with their nonsensical bullsh*t.
