Billy’s Journey: Discovering the Power of Love and Acceptance
Sometimes, my mom and dad don’t like our neighbors because they’re different. They’re two men who are really good friends and like to hold hands. My parents have been taught things that make them think it’s not okay for two men to be that close. They say stuff that isn’t very nice about them, making me sad and confused.
But I know that not everyone thinks the same way as my parents. Many people think it’s great to be friends and love each other, no matter who they are. I’ve seen other families and friends happy together, even if they’re different. It’s okay for me to feel differently from my parents and wonder why they think differently.
I’ve talked to my teacher and some friends at school, and they’ve told me it’s important to be kind and understanding. They say that everyone is unique and special and that we should accept and love them for who they are. This makes a lot more sense to me.
I can choose what I think about love and friendships when I grow up. I want to be kind and treat everyone respectfully, even if they differ. I think everyone should be happy, just like our neighbors. I want to learn more about different people and how they live so that I can be a good friend to everyone I meet.
I also know that changing how people think or feel can be hard sometimes. But I believe that by being a good kid and showing love and kindness to everyone around me, I might be able to help others understand that it’s okay for people to be different. And maybe, one day, my mom and dad will see that too.
