Mark Rutte, the Dutch Prime Minister, Tells Immigrants to Fit In Or Get Out

The Netherlands has long been considered the most liberal European country there is. It was the first European country to openly allow smoking dope in cafes and so on and so forth.
If anyone, anywhere on the globe was asked to name the most liberal European country, almost without exception, they would have said the Netherlands. Mind you, given that piece of information I suspect much of America’s youth would have struggled as, apparently, many of them are unsure where anywhere is outside of America, let alone a country that has two names, such as the Netherlands, sometimes known as Holland, which it’s not.
Anyway. Having established, I hope, that the Netherlands is indeed the most liberal country in Europe it is on those grounds alone, perhaps, all the more startling that it is the current Dutch Prime Minister who has publically stated in a Dutch national newspaper that immigrants should either ‘fit in’ with Dutch ways or ‘leave’.
Now. I have to admit, I wholeheartedly agree with him.

It is for the immigrants of whatever kind entering into whichever country to fit in with their adopted country. It is not, in my view, a ‘two way street’.
The natural residents of any country are entitled to expect immigrants of any kind to adapt their ways, culture, faith etc et al in order to ‘fit in’ and assimilate.
They don’t have to of course. They have an alternative. Leave.
I like this Dutch Prime Minister.
It is believed, probably rightly, that with a Dutch election looming and the Netherland’s right wing leader Geert Wilders doing well in the polls, the incumbent Prime Minister realised that even the naturally liberal Dutch have had enough of the ludicrous politically correct idea that we should all adapt to other cultures and live in a multi-cultural nirvana.
This particular liberal dream – and I’m not saying American liberal dream, I reckon you American liberals are different in many ways to Europeans – you tell me – is now, finally and completely dead in the water.
If even the naturally incredibly liberal Dutch are swinging to the right politically speaking then surely European liberals are finally going to get the message.
No. We don’t want immigrants who want to retain their own culture, faith or way of life. They come here they adapt and assimilate or, if they prefer, they leave.

Sounds good to me.
Mind you, this swing to the right politically speaking is fine and dandy in Europe. In America however it seems to be taking on an ever more weird and bizarre persona.
Geert Wilders may be a Dutch right wing politician as Marine Le Pen is a French right wing politician. Indeed, Nigel Farage may be a right wing British politician but, at least, we can understand what they are saying. We may agree or disagree but, even if we disagree we can, at least, understand that their perspective is at least sane and fathomable.
In America you lot have Trump.
Apparently he tweeted at 6 am US time last week that he believed Obama had his phone tapped.
Now. This information came from a right wing journalist who wrote it without any proof what so ever. Somebody said it and it was reported. No back up. No evidence. No nothing. I think that is called an unsubstantiated rumour.

Trump, possibly sitting on the toilet, at 6 am then tweets it as a fact.
If this happened in Britain or, I suspect, any number of countries in Europe, the ‘tweeter’ being the current leader would be hauled off to the nearest shrink under suspicion of being incapable of holding any high office of any kind.
Certainly it would have been done discreetly. We can’t have newspaper headlines saying ‘British Prime Minister Loses Marbles’ – that would be too awkward so it would be done discreetly but it would be done.
What the hell is going on America????
Your President is tweeting – possibly from his toilet. After all, why else would he be up and about at 5am? – that his phone was tapped by Obama a la ‘Watergate’ without any evidence at all and then goes on to tweet about Celebrity Apprentice viewing figures.
WHAT????
Yes, European politics are swerving to the right. Yes, European liberals are alarmed but, yes, there is a logic in the arguments of the right wing politicians.
You can disagree with them by all means but they are clearly sane and hold sane opinions. They certainly don’t sit on the pan tweeting madness.
Europe’s right wing politicians want immigrants to ‘fit in’ or ‘leave’. I, personally, agree wholeheartedly. Some will disagree. There is no desire to build a wall, neither is there a desire to tweet shit whilst taking one.
Somebody in America really needs to do something.
The swing to the ‘right’ is certainly explainable and understandable in Europe. In America it seemed bizarre when it happened. Now it just seems silly but dangerously so.
In Europe I suspect it will end, if not well, then not entirely in tragedy. It may even end well, who knows?
In America? Oh eck. There may be trouble ahead. Scratch the ‘may’.

He’s getting hammered for changing his position. Sure looks like pandering to me.
Actually he’s aware that even the liberal Dutch have had enough of the type of immigrant that wants to inflict too much alien culture on them. Pandering perhaps but the Dutch right are making gains. I’m not sure acknowledging realities qualifies as pandering.
