A kind of Swan Song.

Read Time:2 Minute, 3 Second

I have no animal tune today. But I do submit this kind of a swan song.

Can you imagine Dr. King dreaming of this?

Today a lunatic demonstrates the supreme tolerance of American society. Today Americans who took the risk in marching, demonstrating, laying down their lives (in southern states) … today those noble, hopeful ghosts are being exercised by an intemperate, greedy for power, greedy for money, lunatic fringe propelled dupe, the kind who always seems to have a following. Like Amy Semple MacPherson, Joe McCarthy, Rasputin, Pope Innocent or the Kingfish___ Glen Beck is enjoying a perfectly insane claim to vast pomp and splendor because people just seem to love to Hate… as long as it has lies pasted all over it saying it isn’t what it is. You see where I’m going here? Mr. Beck is writing a bad check to his disciples; a check of insuffcient funds. But they seem so eager to cash in on it’s emptiness and despair.

It’s got to hurt our President and his family. I can’t see it not doing that. This morning I sat and listened to Dr. King’s speech again. I remember hearing the first time. The profundity of it all hit me… the Haters and the segregationists. A man who would call the first black President a racist for his own glamour stands of the steps of the Lincoln memorial today and takes racists license with a true great man who expressed his Dream of unity and equality with Muslims standing beside him.
How shameful for America, what Beck does today. He does have ever right to do so.

I feel like Connie on the steps of the opera house in the killing scene of Godfather 3… all I can do is raise the black veil to shroud my head as it hangs in grief from the tragic loss… innocents parish as the real villans remain alive. It’s as if the signpost passed a few miles back was not Yes We Can but read clearly, You Are Now Entering The Twilight Zone.

We must demonstrate too. Every day. Demonstrate your ethics. Your values. Your integrity. How are you going to act? America is in crisis. If you can’t see it, you are blind with ignorance. If today’s comedy on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial doesn’t convince you… you are in need of a cane and handicap sign.

Here’s the song I’m listening to today:

Gwen, Great post and great thoughts. I know longer think of Glen Beck nor his followers. He will and does say anything that will inflame people and get them to listen to him. His followers are simply too stupid to see through his antics and thus are hopeless. He and Rush Limbaugh are just making money by stirring things up and I don’t know and don’t really care if they really believe their crap.
Bless Dr. King for all the good he did but I think if he were to come back today and see how many of his brethren were profiting off the backs of the very people he was trying to help he would be sorely disappointed. Many of them have join the “all for me club” right along with the Republicans

You make an excellent point, Lazer. TY for commenting! I can only think that there needs to be commentary on this…
you know …
“They came first for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.”

The truth of it is; out of census numbers indicating roughly 308 million US citizens, roughly 3 million listen to and support (usually buying gold 🙂 Glenn Beck. Like the number who listen to Faux News. What kind of percentage is that?

I did check the demographics or same ratio’s as Faux News re: Nazism in post war Germany with a terrible economy the nation suffered under. Listening to an inflammation of their anger and fears proved to be enough for ordinary people to make bad decisions not to pay attention or to believe the unbelievable. So…. you know, talk (writing) is cheap. Eh? But I’ll keep it up. I do absolutely realize, thinking people don’t believe in Beck, probably are only dimly aware of who he might be. Right? This morning I saw a headline claiming that this economy will continue for another decade. Think of the political nasties that can arise out of that…. o dear.

I got fourdinners back here, in this case he’s indigenous.

I guess they don’t live near Hayes Town babe…;-)

We (Brits) aren’t racist or Islamophobic…we are just Brits and peeps living here have to be Brits…or they can leave.

We won’t adapt to them as it’s ‘our place’.

They won’t adapt to us so what happens next?

My country can never adapt to sharia and all that shit. My daughter will live in England under English law and culture.

Our immigrants need to get up to speed. Their way is at best secondary…accept or leave.

End of.

I guess your friends live nowhere near Hayes Town or Southall or Bradford etc…

So many Brits haven’t realised yet…they will…sooner or later…knowing us…when it’s too late!

It’s difficult to comment from an English perspective. Dr King was an extraordinary man and I find his speech inspiring in the extreme.

However, I’m not an American living there. If I was I would be in complete agreement with you I suspect.

Sadly, it is different over here. Many immigrants bring their cultures over and make no attempt to assimilate or even accept our ways – many, even second and third generation and beyond, vocally say they feel no allegiance to England let alone Britain.

Calls for sharia law in areas of high muslim population is a case in point.

A response of ‘obey our laws’ is invariably met with the standard ‘you are Islamophobic’ garbage.

When we, the indigenous respond with “Fair enough, leave” we’re racist/Islamophobic etc etc etc.

I only wish we had gone the American route way back and had immigrants swear allegiance to Britain – whilst that wouldn’t ensure allegiance it would certainly have made it harder for such a sizeable number of immigrants – and, sadly, a large number are muslim, to regularly offend us with criticisms of our country and our ways whilst claiming Islamophbia if we dare to argue back.

It would also have made it harder for far right organisations to gain the foothold they have as there would undoubtedly have been fewer ‘difficult’ immigrant groups to deal with – ie those who almost incite indigenous Brits towards the far right.

Beck is clearly unhinged in his hatred for people with a better sun tan than he has. His voice is not, has never been and never will be America’s voice.

The west knows that from Britain to Italy and from France to Ukraine.

No need to hang your head Henny. No need at all.

Whilst Obama hasn’t turned out to be quite what many Americans – and, indeed, British – thought he would be, in fairness, his hands have been somewhat tied by opposition members thwarting many of his plans.

I suspect his lashing out over the BP/British Petroleum business came about through understandable frustrations as in ‘oh for Christs sake! First I’ve all these opposition numbnuts to contend with now BP screws my term!’….can’t really blame him. We did for a while but then looked a bit further. He’s a good man and, even better, he has human frailties and sometimes may go over the top. Personally I’ve grown to admire him very much almost as much for his human frailties….it makes him ‘one of us’ in many ways rather than ‘one of them’.

I hope he gets a second term and I hope he’s allowed to show his true colours (colors) second time around.

I think most of us would rather like the guy if he was allowed to be himself and be the Prez he wants to be.

‘Tea Bagger’ over there has bugger all to do with the way it is over here.

Interestingly, our right wing British National Party have singularly failed to mention any sort of support for these American racists – which, if nothing else, perhaps underscores the difference between over here and over there.

Good luck America. The west always looks to you for the best way forward and you’ve rarely let us down yet….and even when you have…Nixon etc…you’ve soon recovered your place in our hearts.

I reckon you will this time too.

Keep the faith

TY 4D for commiserating …
As I noted, Mr. Beck has all rights to express his ideas and profit from them. We are America. Sharia law has not been adopted by our legislature. Neither has been ‘pushed’ by any Muslim group, that I know of.
But the agendas of the right wing are being pushed by dupe and by puppet and ultimately by corporation over here. My ‘hang my head’ is a drama queen exposition of how I feel. And there are definitely times when, from my point of view, on several fronts … I am ashamed of the leadership of my country, like right now.
And I don’t sit on it. I do try to do what I can to change that.

I get it that Muslims are intimidating in Britain. I have several friends in the UK. They don’t seem to feel the situation is as acute as you do, but I don’t doubt you. ty for commenting!

Oh Gwen, I will reroute you to the Rude Pundit’s tweeting of this rally. He is hilariously taking this thing apart. Last comment, this is like the lamest college graduation speech ever. I’ve been following him for about an hour now and have tears in my eyes from laughing at the Beckture. Here ya go for the hilarity. I loves TRP. Disclaimer though for those with delicate sensibilities, he is nasty and rude as his moniker tells you. Don’t say you haven’t been warned. Well, he is onto post Beckture now, finding the need for drinks.

Rude Pundit is hilarious. I was blissfully unaware of the becktard pulling this stunt. You could play a drinking game with the amount of patriotic references and then chug it when he cries.

God bless you Gwen. I feel it too, Becks message of hatred seems to resonate with the faint of brain.

His crusade of hatred for Blacks has gone on for a while.ACORN, Obama’s Marxist Black Army, Obama’s “racism”.

Toss Mexicans in the bunch – “all undocumented workers are criminals” and Muslims – “Mr Ellison, prove to me you are not working with the enemy” and it’s Nixon’s Southern strategy on steroids.

Hey Oso, thank you for the blessing. I only ever accepted that from my mom. Thank you.
We have to make our stand against this kind of hate. Ignorance. Cruelty, intolerance, segregation, violence, …. oh I do go on.
But passion is required. Without it, what will fade from the focus? I know I tend to be a bit ‘passionate’… truth is, I don’t really think I go too far. Passion though, needs its’ boundaries. Passion is an anchor, though. And it’s absence …diminishes the vitality of a message or a cause. Passion encourages you to do the footwork and to make a difference / to make a change. Not just sit back and speculate…eh?
TY Bro.
