Discovery Channel afraid to show last episode of Frozen Planet

Read Time:2 Minute, 29 Second

The crazies on the Right have so intimidated the media that they’re afraid to broadcast the truth about climate change.

Sir David Attenborough presents and authors the 'On Thin Ice' episode. It looks at how the planet's ice is changing and what it means not only to the animals and people at the Poles but also the rest of the planet

The fear of antagonizing idiots like Rick Perry and the 53% of mainstream Republicans and 70% of Tea Baggers who don’t believe in climate change is crafting how America gets its information about crucial issues.

How can it be that in a country like the United States the Discovery Channel, those who broadcast a series narrated and hosted by an empty header Sarah Palin could be so persuaded to eradicate the truth?

Here’s the disturbing story:

An episode of the BBC’s Frozen Planet documentary series that looks at climate change has been scrapped in the U.S., where many are hostile to the idea of global warming.

British viewers will see all seven episodes of the multi-million-pound nature series throughout the Autumn. But U.S. audiences will not be shown the last episode, which looks at the threat posed by man to the natural world. It is feared a show that preaches global warming could upset viewers in the U.S., where around half of people do not believe in climate change.

The series of six episodes has been sold to 30 countries, including China, one of the world’s biggest polluters.

[…] In the U.S., Frozen Planet is being aired by Discovery. They were involved in the joint-production of the series. Yet they are still refusing to accommodate Frozen Planet in its entirety.

The timing of a one-sided global warming programme could be particularly sensitive in the U.S., where climate change is an issue in the presidential race.

GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry accuses climate scientists of lying for money.

A poll earlier this year found that the majority of Americans believe that if climate change does exist, it is not caused by humans.

What do you think about this?  Is it right that The Discovery Channel is, in effect, censoring their own series, Frozen Planet?

While I wish to respect the viewpoints of others, it is not at the detriment of someone else. This type of censorship is not helpful to progress.

Happy to teach the controversy. That of course includes lessons on just how artificial that controversy really is and how the pseudo-conservatives have manipulated the media to main the illusion that scientists are not in consensus on this issue.

The ignorance of a majority of Americans who refuse to believe in global warming disgusts me. However the tiptoeing around the feelings of these science illiterate individuals disgusts me more. Of course so many people don’t believe in global warming when you can’t air scientific truth.

Does Discovery really think the people who deny climate change even watch the Discovery channel? They are all watching South Park and 16 and pregnant.

I doubt that too, South Park is the one making fun of them. At least they touch up on real problems going on; 16 and Pregnant is right there next to Jersey Shore and Toddlers and Tiaras.

Here I am thinking that the Discovery Channel is different than most of the the other channels. Wow!! They need to air that show. It needs to be seen by all people so that hopefully we can start taking care of this amazing planet instead of letting a few naysayers dictate what can be shown on tv. I agree that people should flood the Discovery Channel with their disappointment and let them know that the episode should go on the air in the USA.

I encourage anyone who is upset by this to contact the Discovery Channel directly. Comments about discontinued support, disappointment, and (tasteful) criticism should be directed towards the people who can actually do something about it!

Here is the link where you can voice your opinion. Be respectful, but be heard!

Typical whiny crybaby liberal name calling by the author of this trash of an article.

That is so irresponsible. Its not like the people who don’t believe it will be trying to learn more about nature anyway, and this is exactly the kind of media that should be used to educate the population about the dangers of climate change. It would really be nice if The Discovery Channel actually upheld a mission to make people more aware about the world and universe we all share, but I guess it just for mind numbing the masses just like the rest of television.

This makes me sad. At this moment, I feel ashamed to be American. The Discovery channel needs to show that last episode in the U.S.

This sucks. Even worse is the fact that Alec Baldwin is narrating the show! Why can’t they leave David Attenborough’s original narration??

When I see programs done by Discovery Channel I get a warm, fuzzy feeling, expecting that the truth of science and rationality will be shown. Did I get it wrong, or am I over-reacting? As a Canadian, I become more ashamed of my southern neighbors everyday!

I usually drop a chunk of change at The Discovery Channel Store for Christmas gifts. Don’t think I will do that this year.

I hate to read this. Even despite putting Sarah Palin on the air I continue to enjoy their programming. This one might be the last straw.

While there is no doubt that the climate will change, it always has. the problem is that it has yet to be proven that climate change is: man made, that the planet will not adapt, and that this is not a perfectly natural and normal process.

Lest we leave out the carbon foot print of 1 volcano in Iceland a few years ago, the recent mini ice-age, and that dinosaurs walked the earth in a world that suffered global warming long before man.

What most of us object to is “the we need to suffer and feel bad about ourselves attitude placed upon us by people who do not take it seriously enough to curb their own carbon foot print but tell us we have to suffer”. People like the Al Gore, President Obama and the discovery channel founder all of whom have gigantic carbon foot prints, much bigger than mine, yet I am suppose to change not them. If you want a lower carbon foot print fix yourself first; stop buying 50 inch energy eating flat screens, Iphones and cable TV, using energy consuming search engines, and eating oranges in January in Canada.

You all are dumb, no one out there is saying climate change doesn’t happen. Just look around you libtards. THE THING IS MAN CANNOT EFFECT CLIMATE CHANGE UNLESS WE DECIDE TO NUKE THE ENTIRE PLANET. Even then then mother earth would fix it herself. We cannot control the SUN, which is the primary factor for climate on our planet. Al Gore is a moron, and you are even more of a moron if you believe the BS that flows from his mouth. According to him Florida should be underwater right now. Also, our earth hasn’t been in a warming trend since the early 1900’s. We are in a cool slump ATM, meaning the earth is getting colder…do to climate change which is natural….Nothing cause by man. Also you all need to learn basic science before any of you talk about CO2 and other gases. The biggest thing in this is our trees and plants. CO2 causes plants to thrive, with out it they would not, I say again with out CO2, plants would NOT GROW. Science has proven 100’s of thousands of years ago CO2 levels were 10 times higher than they are now, which made pretty much the entire surface of the planet green there weren’t deserts back then. The globe would’ve have been like a giant green house with constant temps of 88 degrees F and plant and animals thrived. If anything, we need to plant more trees and plants to and pump more CO2 out for them to convert into O2 which is what we need… Do some reading most people will agree that climate change happens about every 4 months in North America. Seasons change, climate changes with the seasons; and overall the earth will cool off when the sun is cool and will warm up when the sun is active and hot. Nothing we can control. The earth has been here long before us and will continue to be long after we are gone.
