Just a little info for those who think we’ve had ‘global cooling’ in recent years:
NEW YORK, New York, January 25, 2010 (ENS) – The year 2009 was tied for the second warmest year in the modern record, shows a new analysis of global surface temperature from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Conducted by NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York City, the analysis also shows that in the Southern Hemisphere, 2009 was the warmest year since modern records began in 1880.
January 2000 to December 2009 was the warmest decade on record. Throughout the last three decades, the GISS surface temperature record shows an upward trend of about 0.2°C (0.36°F) per decade.
“There’s a contradiction between the results shown here and popular perceptions about climate trends,” said climatologist Dr. James Hansen, director of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies. “In the last decade, global warming has not stopped.” (Full story here.)

None of the people who deny Climate Change will accept it until it ups and bites them on the ass even then they might just want to work around it.
Most Christains I’m around are so hyped up on seeing Jesus that if the shit does hit the fan with coastal area permanently flooded and tundra methane spewing forth raising temperatures even more they will welcome it as signs of the Rapture.
The free enterprise-at-all-cost types will see the warmer arctic areas as new places to “develop” and will just move to whatever place on the globe that is least affected by the climate disruptions. Hell even now I’ve read a few articles, one was in The Atlantic monthly a while back, that say shippers are having orgasms over how an ice-free Arctic ocean would allow quicker and cheaper delivery of goods.
Of course the losers in all this will be the poor and powerless, but in this Corporate Age I guess it is to be expected.
The term global warming is counter-intuitive. As the planet warms the temperatures become more extreme. Cold becomes colder and hot becomes hotter. The latter will be the operative paradigm.
The first few weeks of January down here in Georgia were pretty cold, extraordinarily so, so I stopped calling it Global Warming, instead I reverted to Climate Change, but when it’s 100F in April and dry as a bone, I will probably go back to Global Warming. Either way, it’s happening.
Anyone who refuses to accept the dramatic change in seasonal starts and seasonal temperatures is a republican…Wait! Well yes!!
Last month, we had our first snow anywhere near christmas for about 20 years. Virginia is turning dry. We’ve always been hot & humid in the summer, somewhat mild in the winter, but we’ve had a constant draught for the past decade.
Oh, there are sane AGW deniers. No smart ones, though.
