Just how long in the tooth is Mick Jagger?
I don’t know how many people really care but then again there are a lot of people looking to find out as this subject is top of the charts on the Google hit parade. So just how much gray is in Mick’s beard? How about Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Willow Smith, or Eminem for that matter? Why don’t you take a guess before reading this article? Well The Washington Post wants you to know and have put together this little gem for your celebrity watchers:
Age is not just a number to Grammy fans. The morning after the big award show, all anyone seems to want to know is age-specific numbers. How old is Mick Jagger? (67) How old is Barbra Streisand? (68) The questions came up as top-searched items Monday morning. Queries also came up for Bob Dylan (69), Willow Smith (10) and Eminem (38).
Why the interest in age? The whole night was a paean to the many different ages of music. Or as The Post’s Chris Richards puts it: The Grammy Awards was a night shaped as “a big trans-generational group hug.”
The young played tribute to the old (Yolanda Adams, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride and Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine celebrating the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin). The young played music with the even younger (Justin Bieber passes the almost-too-young tween heartthrob torch to 12-year-old Jaden Smith). And the old getting backed up by the young (Bob Dylan surrounded by would-be-Dylans in the guise of folk bands Mumford and Sons and the Avett Brothers).
Did the style work? Or was it some desperate attempt by the music industry to muster up some semblance of its pre-Internet former glory? In an industry usually devoted to the celebration of youth, this was a show all about honoring the old. (Read Richards’ article for the full age-divide tribute.)
So were you right? Did you guess correctly? I was a mile off on the ladies.

It is really odd to think of Mick Jagger as being old. I mean he is almost my age and I (almost) never think of that as old. But then again we have both been around for a long time.
