President Kennedy’s last night alive captured on film
(Newser) – John F. Kennedy’s last night alive was captured on film that has been turned over to a museum. The silent home movie sat for years in a drawer in the Houston home of Roy Botello, now 88. He filmed the president, smiling warmly, as he spoke at a Houston hotel for the League of the United Latin American Citizens. Botello, who was sitting in the front row, also filmed the first lady and Vice President Lyndon Johnson. “Everyone went nuts” when the Kennedys turned up, recalls Botello. JFK was assassinated the next day. The film was transferred to video and turned over to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas, reports ABC News.

Its always amazing when things like this pop up, I work for a company called filmtransfer.com and we have had 8mm and 16mm films of past presidents in parades and other events like this. It is always interesting to see the perspective of the amateur filmographer and how the crowd reacts to these “former greats.”
Better yet I’d be interested to see if this museum could do any restoration on this old film. Our company just formed an exclusive relationship with a company that has advanced algorithms that can incredibly restore films with scratches, flecks, and other irremovable debris to a state that I did not think was possible. Perhaps I could see if our company could restore this film for the sake of preserving history? (on top of our incredible film transfer process)

My memories are also vivid of that day.I was in 7th grade, school let out early at the news and a group of 7th graders walked to the nearby Catholic church to pray for the president.
Mike, it brought a tear to the eye to watch that. Not only because it’s his last day, but I have always admired JFK for so many reasons.
Sure, he had his faults. What leader doesn’t? But he was the right man at a crucial time in American history.
I shudder to think what would have happened if some of the latest crop of presidents would have been in office at the particular time.
It touched me also Krell. I have vivid memories of those days.
