Was Morning Joe Kissing Up To Trump Long Before Hannity?
by Michael John Scott
CNN’s “New Day” host Chris Cuomo took some subtle shots at MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Thursday morning, saying he never received the same amount of criticism as Fox News personality Sean Hannity back when he was known as the “Trump whisperer” and unofficial adviser to President Donald Trump.
In a conversation with CNN media analyst Brian Stelter, the New Day host took up a Washington Post report that called Hannity Trump’s “unofficial chief of staff.”
Stelter asked:
“What is Sean Hannity? Is he a newsman — he says no — an opinion guy? Is he the president’s shadow chief of staff? I thought the Washington Post’s reporting was so so interesting because it really portrays this television host as someone who should be in the White House organizational chart. Someone who essentially has a desk at the White House.”
Co-host Alisyn Camerota added:
“Sean Hannity, these staffers believe, gives the president policy advice, and the president gives Sean Hannity show advice, acting as his executive producer for the show.”
Host Cuomo jumped in:
“Full disclosure, ‘Morning Joe’ is opposite us for MSNBC in the morning. How is this different than Morning Joe?”
Cuomo recalled before saying it was all about access to the president — and thus ratings.
“Remember in the days of the glow, when Joe and Mika spoke to Trump all the time, they had him on, discussed what questions to talk about in the break. They were the Trump whisperers,”
Cuomo continued:
“I was watching the headlines closely because I believed it worked against us here. Because we didn’t have that kind of access because we weren’t all ‘mwah mwah mwah’ with Donald Trump all the time.”
Cuomo accused added,
“And now it’s suiting them [Morning Joe] to do the opposite, and that hasn’t been called out either.”

As a long time watcher of Morning Joe, I have to agree with Cuomo. Scarborough was so enamored with Trump I wouldn’t have been surprised by anything he said or did during his “sucking up to The Donald” period. What do you think?
👍👍👍 – Hannity was someone I enjoyed watching years ago when be wasn’t so off the wall his co-host provided a sensible and rational counter. Now he simply serves as a ventriloquist for rightwing Trumpian BS on FAUX Snooze.
Scarborough is not in the same league with Hannity. Although I do not care for him either.

Oh, I think that’s unfair. Hannity is nearly unparalleled even if these days there are people like Alex Jones. He’s more dangerous because he’s got himself into a position where he’s presented as mainstream. He isn’t. It’s not as though Joe hasn’t been shifty, but I don’t think he’s an out and out fraud and a borderline criminal. Scarborough is hardly the first Crypto Republican to run screaming from the Trump horror after being fooled for a while.
Besides if you don’t watch Morning Joe, howya gonna watch Willie Geist?
I’m no fan of Joe because of his hypocrisy, and his sometimes nonsensical attacks on Democrats, however, I don’t put him in the same pool as Hannity for the reasons you articulate. Willie Geist, however, is another critter, and I’m a big fan.
I have never cared for Joe Scarborough and still don’t. I think the comparison between he and Sean Hannity are a fair. Both rattle on in such a way that is meant to indicate that they know the right answer to everything. Scarborough had his shot as a congressman so at best he is a has been. What Mika see in im I don’t know. Her dad was a truly brilliant man in foreign affairs so I wonder what they talk about.
